this past saturday, my truesy friends and i faced one of the last
hurtles before becoming SLPs--taking the damned Praxis exam.
for those of you that don't know, it's the
boards/nclex/mcats/gmat, what have you, of our profession.
without it, we don't get to work. anyway. after months of studying
material we already knew, we sucked it up, sharpened our pencils,
and filled in bubble after bubble after bubble after bubble...
i hope we all pass--"don't judge me if i fail, promise?" haha.

on a side note:
i've been in this rut as of late, deciding where i stand with a lot of
things. i won't go into depth because there's no need--it's my own
personal battle. i'm in a good place now, but certain things
are out of place and i don't know if any of it is worth fixing. meh!

anyway, new york may be in sight for april....kinda up in
the air, but it's definitely an option.

monterey for csha in a few weeks or so.
camping before may term starts!
vegas with the family planned out.

later in the afternoon had a triple birthday celebration/
reunion w/ christine, kelly, adrian, and chris.

i'm so glad this happened.

spent the day at disneyland with my fam!

my mom and dad haven't been to dland since we were
witto babies. it was sooooo fun seeing them on each ride.
can't even begin to describe how much love i felt that day.

so tired later on, but made it to yard house to see
some of the closest. never a dull moment as always.

such an awesome birthday. thanks to everyone for the
greetings. couldn't have asked for more.

i love snfc nights. i really do.
this night in particular, we spent at another
yelp find, Viva Madrid.

there was a (typical for this place) 1 1/2 hour wait
but it was well worth it.
spent that time laughing about thumbless hands
and snake ladies and anything else we can come up with.
never a complaint :)

anyway, shared several tapas
and sangria with good friends.
not a disappointed taste bud at our table.

FIRST STOP: Petrilli's Pizza
sooo good for a no-meat-friday-fix.

got a small pizza (more than enough) with bell
peppers, mushrooms, and garlic.
also ordered a calzone with mushrooms, bell peppers,
and basil.

nothing like a hot date eating pizza in the car and
cleaning up with a roll of toilet paper, haha <3

definitely coming back during the week for some bomb
italian meateries.
oh gosh, yum.

NEXT STOP: Handel's Homemade Ice Cream

4-scoop sampler for $5 (that i barely dented -_-):
chocolate brownie chunk, raspberry cheesecake,
pecan praline, and (my fave) coconut pineapple.

tim got a blondie sundae w/ the works.

Flo's #2 in chino is definitely some all-american
breakfast feasting. i yelped for some bfast food this
morning for timbo and myself, and came across this

this saturday at the beverly hilton.
this year's theme was nefful's got talent and fittingly,
many nefful employees got on stage and performed, tim's
mom being one of them.

first and foremost, happy birthday to mach!

after another brutal tkb class, headed home to
pick up emms for a nana-emma date.
had lunch @ cpk @ victoria gardens,
shopped a bit, then headed to watch The Jungle Book
ballet. so fun :)

after spending some quality time with the rents,
SNFC came over and we had ourselves some dinner and drinks.
thanks to rod for the referral to Ajisen...made picking one
ramen place out of the hundreds in the city of industry way
easier. pretttty bomb. awesome broth.

yardhouse (chino hills) every day happy hour is the business.

spent brunch w/ timbo & val.
ventured to heart attack town, Guasti's.
had to switch "cheat" days for my "eating better"
schedule to make up for this madness...
later went to ikea and got some room ideas.

This is currently where my room stands...

i wanna add little details here and there, get some
new pillows, a mattress pad, and a wall decal for that
big empty space next to my bed.
i like decorating my room :)

it's been interning, gyming, and not much

this vegas trip was so much fun.
i guess i'll go day by day.

left bright and early with timbo, my mama, and my auntie.
checked into the bellagio.
found out we got hooked up mad with free food/free minibar.
mind you, that mini-bar was refilled every morning.
buba arrived with dustin and his fam. they stayed at bally's.
chilled, ate, went to The Bank with the rest of cougartown
(cuz it was front of the line and free entrance from mamastrada),
and gambled.

December 31, 2009
NYE! timbo's friends arrived and unpacked in our room.
ate and gambled then started drinkin.
minus the drama that comes with mother nature's once
a month surprise, it was super fun.
counted down on the strip for the first time with my
favorite person and his friends.

January 1, 2010
INSANE.

woke up hungover, ate all day, gambled,
met up with more of tim's friends, treated
gelo & nicole to some gelato and good talk, then off
to more drinking and dancing with old people.

overall good time.
long car ride home.

i'm really loving every second of it.

spent a more than wonderful evening with my beloved
family/bffs, the st. joes kids. we've been friends for
17 years now. wtf, right? can't live without em.
i don't remember a lot but the pictures helped the
morning after hahaha.

merry christmas eve, everyone :)
i started the morning bright, early & hungover with timbo.
finished last minute errands for my mom and then picked
up the goods for our more than awesome gingerbread house.

later on, helped mama estrada get ready for some serious
fam time. i love my family, more and more as time passes on.
i wish i wasn't so tired....i wouldn't be here in bed blogging
while everyone else is outside if i wasn't so damn tired.

not too sure what my camera is doing. my pics look funky.
anyway, it's been nothing but christmas spirit at truesdail.
as the semester came to a close, i've had some real good
fun with this amazing group of students and teachers.
on monday was on secret santa luncheon.

thursday, right after my finaaaal client report was
turned in, i headed out to vegas with the fam.
nothing short of food and shopping.
i appreciate the little time we get to spend alll together.
it's nice.

christmas is coming closer and yeah it's a big deal...
but new year's is coming, too.
2010 has already got some expectations
heightened for me.
some big changes that i plan to adhere to also.
but as for resolutions i wish to share....

1. learn all 50 states and where they are on the map -_-
2. learn to love my room and spend more time in it.
3. cook something. at least once a week. get with it, kimberly.

the necessary holiday reflection.

so. let me describe my situation: i have a broken family, a relationship that ended less than 24 hours ago, friends that have faded away, and a growing amount of debt that mostly consists of irresponsible spending.

but please understand that: my family is beautiful and flawed by growing pains, it was the most wonderful and fulfilling kind of love i have ever experienced, my friends have continually shown love despite absence, and although the debt is casting a big ugly shadow, the good times that can no longer be refunded shine brighter than lurking dollar signs.

reverend run tweeted recently: "Praise God even when you don't understand what he's doing - (Jacobsen)" and it couldn't have been at a better time. just as those emo-inducing holidays approach, i'm sitting in my bed, blogging about how a) i'm alone, b) i'm broke, and c) it's damn hot this year. in all honesty, though, there's nowhere else i'd rather be.

p.s. my dad just asked me, "kim, how do you get those words on the screen? the ones i need to read the con-bayr-say-shones in the movie?" :) over the years, i've grown to understand my parents more and more. with the free time i have now, i am going to spend most of it at home, trying harder to give back to my parents. they love us past every mistake we've made. they've forgiven us every time we've hurt them. being home is the smallest but most meaningful act they need from me. who knows? maybe i'll cook dinner.

beeeest time of the year!

christmas @ disneyland started yesterday, so
i went with tim & co. plus his auntie to check it out.
we went mostly cuz his auntie's going back home,
BUT christmas is a good excuse as ever.

i was lovin the new Princess & the Frog musical bit!
so 13 rides, 2 parades, fireworks, snow, bread bowls, churros,
and a spectacular fantasmic later, disneyland is
just as good as the first time.

trevor signed us in again this year for some bday fun for emma.
we stayed at the resort for almost 15 hours straight.
SO long but waaaaay worth it.

i LOVE the holidays at disneyland :)

osaka & nick's 21st.

the osaka cultural exchange is one of the most popular
grad-events that we host @ redlands.
i didn't get to go last year cuz of emma girl's bday but luckily
this year i was able to take part.

this was one of the best experiences i've ever had. it starts off
with undergrad presentations from some of our students
then the osaka SLP students taught us about their health care
program. it is currently undergoing reform--much needed reform.

afterwards, we did the fun part--dinner & culture exchange.
we had wakako, misako, and misato at our table--girls
ranging from 19-20 years of age and with limited English.
their English was way better than our Japanese could ever get
(e.g., "domo arrigato" and "sake " were about as far as we got haha).

the language barrier didn't stop the pumpkin carving, origami
lessons, mosaic making, pinata hitting, shinpaishinaide singing,
casper sliding, or fan dancing. it was pretty damn awesome.

afterwards headed to nick's bday with timbo and his friends.
21st disaster at it's best. saw 'win and 'ward there for their
bday too. and the neighbor, kris. coconut bay never fails
to fill the tum with thai ice tea, bomb fried rice, and 2fer
well drinks for cheap. yum.

SO cute/funny. a little bit anti-climactic for
tim and me, but we still liked it. emma thought
ponyo was the cutest thing on earth.

Inglourious Basterds:
it's gonna be a classic movie for tarantino.
there were some parts where the talking lasted forever
(the bar -_-) and i fell asleep for a couple minutes....
but that's normal for me. anyway...

District 9:
it wasn't what i expected, but i didn't know what to expect
for this movie haha. anyway. real good story line.

SO freakin funny. it's a series on HBO and tim and i just

the major leagues...

On Oprah the other day, a psychologist mentioned that you are who you are at 6 years old and that as you get older, you just know more stuff.

In that case, let me share another flashback to the strange girl I was at 6.

Aside from being a cricket farmer (refer to nostalgia 1.0), I had a knack for tripping my mom out at toy stores. Case example #1: the bomb all in one play office supplies set. If you know me well enough by now, you know that the first day of school is my Christmas--ripping open new pen packages, juicy new highlighters, and the underrated luster of sticky tabs (oooooh, my favorite). At 6 years old, I remember that I had this V-Tech laptop that I never needed batteries for. You see, the games on it were a bit understimulating so I decided that it was more fun when it was off. I would type away, instead pretending that I was an office secretary scheduling appointments or a dental assistant organizing client files, screen turned off and silly honking kid noises muted.

As if this wasn't exciting enough, one day my parents took us to the Toy Liquidators at the Cabazon or what have you, and my mom bought me that fake office supplies set. It came stocked with business cards where I carefully penned my name (and later realized my 6 year old handwriting was not fitting, let OCD take over, and proceeded to throw out the 3 marred cards and leave the rest blank), a real datebook/organizer, pens, and folders. I would KILL for manila folders my mom would bring home before, and now I had my very own. Well, I was just one excited rugrat. I sat myself on our little black baby grand which became my cherry oak corner office desk, and scheduled and filed to my heart's desire. It was really the time of my life. My mom even fed this fantasy by giving me a broken spiral cord phone--the KEY to a real office! Making calls and having conversations with my imaginary clients would consume hours of my day. I was strange, yes.

I guess this flashback explains a lot ha! I miss those days. I'm glad I'm recording these now.

So you see, sometimes I have these vivid flashbacks while I'm falling asleep or just lying around. Since I hope that blogspot is still running by the time I'm 98 with dementia, I've decided to record various memories pre-blog era so that these will not be lost either.

1. When I was a tiny 5-6 year old, I would sit in the kitchen around 7 o'clock and watch my daddy drink his daily glass of milk. Never would I dare take a sip--I hate milk. I still do, actually (soy ftw), but he loved it and a little would always get on his mustache. I would then proceed to kiss him goodbye, along with my two sisters, and then watch mom kiss him goodbye, too. Dad working graveyard shift @ long beach postal service was always a drag when I was scared at night. I would proceed to perch myself on the little step next to the garage door and listen to the garage open, hear the car rev up, then hear it close. Daddy left to work.

Now next to the step is the gate to the vent of the house. And on one particular night, I heard chirping chirp chirp coming from that vent and oh, did I get excited. I asked my mom for a wet paper towel and proceeded to clean the grates of that vent with my paper towel because that night I adopted, what I convinced my 6 year old self was, a family of crickets. For the next few nights, seeing dad off to work also became visiting time with the crickets in the vent...until one day they died or I just forgot about them.

I like that memory. I can still feel the carpet that used to be in our house on my little bottom, see the feathery dust bunnies on the vent, and hear my mom and dad flirting in Ilonggo.

My parents still flirt. Thank God for that.
